We are happy to announce the 4th IAHR Asian Working Group Symposium on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems will be held in Kashgar, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, during 12 to 16 August, 2023.

This Symposium will gather scientists and engineers from industries, universities, consultants and users of hydraulic machinery mainly in Asia to discuss the most recent advances in 19 related topics, as well as the latest challenges faced in industry.

We also welcome participates from all over the world.

We hope in Kashgar, this very beautiful city, to host a productive academic exchange.

On behalf of Xinhua Hydropower Co., Ltd., it is my great honor to welcome you to participate in this symposium.

Xinhua Hydropower Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Xinhua Hydropower) is an important state-owned backbone enterprise directly managed by the CPC Central Committee. It is jointly funded by China National Nuclear Corp (hereinafter referred to as CNNC) and the Ministry of Water Resources, and controlled by CNNC. The company has the advantage of the professional industrial central enterprise management of the Ministry of Water Resources. The functional orientations are: 1. investment & development; 2. engineering construction; 3. production & operation. As the major unit implementing the CNNC non-nuclear green energy strategy, Xinhua Hydropower actively implements the development mission of "serving the country in a green way, innovating & sharing", so as to create a first-class green energy enterprise with the CNNC characteristics. The company has been deeply rooting in the energy field for more than 20 years, smoothly maintaining sustainable development of hydropower, vigorously developing pumped storage power generation, diligently exploring new types of energy storage such as solar and thermal energy. It also actively promotes the construction of large-scale wind power &photovoltaic power generation bases and the complementary development of multiple energy sources of "hydro energy, wind energy, luminous energy and stored energy". Currently, the installed capacity is 10GW.

Here, on behalf of Xinhua Hydropower, I sincerely invite all participants to visit the Altash Key Water Control Project located in the Yarkant River basin in southern Xinjiang. This project is the largest water conservancy project ever built in Xingjiang and known as the "Three Gorges Project in Xinjiang", with an installed capacity of 755,000 kilowatts and designed annual output of 2.186 billion kw·h. It is also one of the 100 major projects in China during the national "13th Five-Year Plan" period. The technical characteristics of this great project can be summarized as "three high and one deep", that is, the worldwide technical problems of high seismic intensity, high dam, high slope and deep overburden. Its scale and technical difficulties in construction are rarely seen in the world, many related scientific researches are leading in the industry and the achievements are significant, with 50 patents obtained. The operation of this project has completely solved the millennium flood problem of the Yerqiang River, benefiting 2.4 million people along the river.
